Father's Day

"We all know that father is the smartest, wisest man on earth unless a teenager is listening. Many adults can look back on their lives and remember that they would have done more of what dad said if only it was their idea." Randy Van Drew

"The father is the provider, the defender, the counselor, the friend who will listen and give support when needed.  Who better than an exemplary father to effectively teach children the value of education, the dead-end nature of street gangs, and the miracle of self-esteem that can change their lives for good?”  (Gordon B. Hinkley, Stand A Little Taller, p. 169)

Those two quotes are my top favorite ones about dads.
I think they each speak truth, whether written in all seriousness or jest.

These characteristics are just some that I can list off the top of my head that I am 99.9% sure fits at least one at a time, if not all of them:
Cheerful, adventurous, full of integrity, humorous, loving, handsome, patient, thoughtful, courteous, loves to travel, easy to talk to/with, strong, firm in the gospel, courageous, likes to cook, trustworthy, makes and follows through with goals, keeps the commandments, hard working, follows the prophet, respects women, loves children, loves his mother

I've included just a few pictures of some men in my life that have been father figures to me, or to someone I care deeply about.
They each in their own way have helped me understand their important role as fathers, brothers, and husbands as they try to do the best they can!

Be warned that some of these pictures are ancient, and some may not have the best angle of the person.
This means we need to travel more to visit family, and that I need to make sure I take better pictures!

Happy Father's day to all those that have been pictured, all those that I don't have pictures of, and all who have read this post!
I hope you all know how much I love and care for each of you!

Expecting

I write this post hesitantly because of all the strong opinions people have.
But it is something that I just need to get out and share not just with Mr. Dawson.

I have a hard time when people announce they are pregnant.
Not always,
but often enough that I think the times it doesn't affect me I am holding it in until I can't any more.

This is where the opinions roll....
"But you already have a kid, it's not like you are completely empty armed!"
and other thoughts similar to that

Yes this is true.
And Mr. Dawson reminded me of something last night when I broke down after another friends announcement.

"They are just joining the 'getting a second kid club' that we are in too!"

That is also true!

That's when the lightbulb moment hit me.
It's not necessarily envy that they are expanding their family, because we are planning on ours expanding too!
It's the envy of them having a date and knowing WHEN their family will expand.
It's that due date that gets me.
Our due date can be anywhere from this week to any day in the next many years!
(however long we are up for keeping our adoption account active!)

Now that I've publicly shared this I don't want people to not share that they are pregnant!
I love hearing about it!
Just know that I might feel a bit sad for 15 minutes, and then I get over it!
okay?
Okay!

Happy Fathers Day!

We must start with this man:
Mr. Dawson/Daddy

He is amazing!
He brings sunshine into every day.
He tickles both me and his little girl!
He is the man who picked out my wedding ring.
He is the man who cried when Ellie was born.
He is the man that I have weathered through MANY storms with.
He is the man that I choose to stand by and who chooses to stand by me!

 This is my Daddy
He's taught me so many things.
He's been understanding and loving.
He is my daddy and I am his little girl!

 This is my Dad
Okay, so he is my dad through marriage, but still!
He has taught my Mr. so much, especially his hard work ethic!
He is there to support us and love us.

These are the dad's in my life!
And I think they are each so incredible and fantastic!
We love you!

Dear World,

I just had a good cry.
I needed it.
I've felt empty, missing something, not sure what
And then being selfish and taking it out on the world.

I apologize.
That wasn't very nice of me.
I am starting over.
Right.
Now.

I just found this blog that is so wonderfully written
And helped me feel better/cry
This post
and this one
and this one

They were the words I have been needing.
Sadly I realized that I have been needing them for a LONG time
I am so glad they have finally found the way to my heart
That I now feel my empty spaces filled.

As I said, I didn't know what I was missing.
I think it hurt the Mr. that I couldn't talk about it.
He wanted to help
I wanted him to help
I just couldn't put it into words
And there it was just sitting in the vast space of the cyber world waiting for me!

I am so grateful for Father in helping me find it.
As always, He knew exactly what I needed!
Thank you!
